Broadsheet produced in conjunction with the exhibition, Heather Hart: Afrotecture (Re)Collection, organized by curator Liz Park. (September 16, 2021–May 21, 2022)

Heather Hart presents a new sculptural installation developed from research on the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, the site of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968. Afrotecture (Re)Collection quotes the the structure of the motel balcony and is designed as a participatory space. UB students and the greater Buffalo community are invited to gather in the installation to study and reflect on this moment of the Civil Rights Movement and its intersection with today’s collective national trauma and sites of memorialization.
